History

The no campaign was launched in September 2000 which is in favour of our continuing membership of the European Union but opposed to euro membership for the foreseeable future. The current members of the no coalition include Business for Sterling, New Europe, Labour Against The Euro and the Green Party.

Business for Sterling was launched in 1998 to challenge the perception that business was in favour of the euro and to take on the CBI – which at the time was under the leadership of Adair Turner and pro-euro. Business for Sterling is supported by approximately 16,000 businesses and has over 1000 leading figures from business on its council – including over 30 Chairmen or Chief Executives of FTSE 100 or FTSE 250 companies. The CBI withdrew from the euro debate at the beginning of 2000. More information at The Political Studies Association and Term Insurance.
